The first Paramo I ever owned was a Prima jacket, which I bought when they had just come on the market - so you will know better than me how long ago that was. That jacket has only just given up. I have worn it everywhere and for everything. It's hillwalked all over Scotland, it's been in the Alps, it's wandered round Mt Blanc, climbed in the Canadian Rockies, held off the rain in the wettest week ever known in Andalucia, and looked out over the Grand Canyon at 4am on a cold desert morning. I've worn it to work, I've cut the grass in it, cycled in it, played tennis in it, and coached tennis in it. And I've never felt uncomfortable. It simply is the best all round outdoor jacket ever made. For the last few years the hood has been held together with duct tape and a paper clip has substituted for the zip puller, until a final rip clambering through bramble bushes to retrieve an errant tennis ball ended its career. It's not the only Paramo garment I have or have had, but it was always my favourite. However this new Vista jacket shows a lot of promise... we'll see how I feel about it in 20 years' time... |
