View a short film clip of Andy and the team filming in Páramo gear in Chamonix.
Andy Parkin is regarded as one of the world’s finest alpine climbers but, in 1984, he suffered a near fatal climbing accident in the Alps, and many believed his love affair with mountains was over. Andy’s slow rehabilitation involved painting and sculpting the mountains that had so very nearly claimed his life, and now Andy is known as much for his inspirational artwork as his climbing. But, incredibly, Andy also learned to climb again, adapting his climbing style to the demands of his damaged body. To mark the 25 years since his accident, this film follows Andy as he revisits the scene of his fall, and begins work on an autobiographical piece of art.
Blue Hippo Media and Weekday Productions are currently creating the definitive film profiling the life and work of Andy Parkin. It is a genuine collaboration between artist and filmmakers and has evolved over much exploration, featuring archive footage, photos as well as interviews with noted contemporaries. The film reveals Andy in his home / studio and peaks of Chamonix, his home town of Sheffield and back at the site of his accident in Switzerland. The film is being shot and edited on the latest HD technology and will be shown at various film festivals around the world and released on DVD and the internet. Summit magazine will be running a DVD comp alongside its review later in the year. The project has been running for 15 months with several filming trips in Europe and the UK: The film team are highly experienced film makers with over 25 yrs broadcast and media expertise. At the moment we are planning the remaining shoots we need to complete the project before we enter the post-production phase.
Páramo are proud to have been able to contribute to the creation of this enthralling piece of filming and climbing history.
